My name is Jackson Farough, and I volunteered with the London Majors from 2020-2023, working on their “MajorsTV” YouTube livestreams. I currently work as a freelance television and audio producer, and have produced broadcasts of the National Lacrosse League (NLL), Major League Rugby (MLR), and the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). They’ve ranged from digital broadcasts streaming in Canada and the United States on TSN+ and ESPN+, all the way to national broadcasts across Canada on TSN.
When I started out with MajorsTV, I had very little experience in live sports coverage. Growing up, there weren’t many opportunities like this outside of the GTA. MajorsTV changed all of that for me. I was able to get consistent reps, both on-camera and as a live Producer. This allowed me to really focus on areas that I wanted to improve in, so as I gained experience, I got much more comfortable in the producer’s chair and my passion for the role took off from there. Much of this business comes down to confidence and repetition, and MajorsTV allowed me to gain both.
My role as a producer with MajorsTV was not limited to just when the game started. I was involved in the setup and strike, and assisted in a leadership role as well. This was a vital learning component from my time with MajorsTV - a big part of the job of a producer is to lead, to ensure the crew is supported and on the same page, and to manage the tone of their messaging to convey the right idea. You can only learn these skills from experience, and MajorsTV provided me with that.
If you’re looking for some glamorous job, live sports production probably is not for you. Starting out with MajorsTV may be a humbling experience at first. “Wrapping cables, setting up cameras? I want to be a star!” It’s all part of the process. Any role in television will be a real challenge at first. Why not get started at a historic venue, in a fun sports market surrounded by a passionate, supportive team?
