The Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the London Majors by a score of 7-2 on a hot Sunday afternoon at Christie Pitts in Toronto.
The win was Toronto's third in three days. The Maple Leafs started their weekend with an extra inning 8-7 win over the London Majors at Labatt Park on Friday night, and added another 7-2 win Saturday over the Brantford Red Sox.
Starting pitcher for Toronto was 41 year-old Angel Castro who held London off the scoresheet through seven innings allowing only six hits. Those hits were all singles. Castro struck out eight Majors hitters to get credit for his second win of the season.
Ty Mosher and Drew Lawerence had two hits each for London while Victor Plaz and Brad Verhoeven had one hit each,
London scored their two runs in the top of the eighth inning without the aid of a base hit, Champ Garner and Drew Lawrence reached base to start the inning on errors by the Toronto shortstop and second baseman respectively. Lawrence eventually scored on a passed ball and Garner scored on a fielder's choice.
London starter Victor Payano gave up a single run in the third inning and a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Payano only allowed five hits in his time on the mound. He left the game after five innings with his team trailing 3-0. Daniel Gore came on in relief of Payano in the sixth and seventh innings allowing three Maple Leafs runs. Christian Coombes came on for the eighth inning and allowed one run..
The London Majors record now sits at 18-11 and has them sandwiched in third place between the second place Barrie Baycats and the fourth place Guelph Royals.
Next action for the Majors is Tuesday night at Labatt Memorial Park when they will finish up a suspended game with the first place Welland Jackfish. That game was suspended by rain on June 21st in the second inning.
