Majors Sign Legacy Classic Starter

The London Majors are pleased to announce the signing of right-handed pitcher Owen Boon for the 2021 season.

The London product continues his career with the Majors joining the team for his 6th season. A career that started in 2014 after pitching for the Western Mustangs (OUA/CIS) and then 2 seasons (2017 & 2018) in the Can-Am League with the Trois-Rivieres Aigles. Boon returned to the Majors in 2018 to pitch 36.1 innings in 8 games. Since then Boon has put up incredible numbers including in 2019 where he pitched 50 innings in 9 games, with 51 strikeouts.

With the IBL season cancelled this past season Boon suited up for the Majors in the Legacy Classic pitching 6 scoreless innings while striking out 9 and only allowing 5 hits before turning the game over to the bullpen.

Boon was asked about returning to Labatt Park and the Pin Stripes, “I am excited to be returning to the Majors this summer, after not being able to play last summer, this season means more than just baseball. I am excited to be a part of this new team dynamic consisting of new and returning players that Roop has painstakingly brought together under these unusual circumstances. Every year the depth of the league continues to grow and the competition between teams gets tighter, and I believe that the team we put out on the field every day will be committed to out-working, out-hustling and out-preparing our competitors and putting ourselves in a position to win every game.”

Co-Owner, Manager and General Manager Roop Chanderdat was asked about what bringing back local talent and a staple in his rotation means at this point of the offseason. “It’s good to have Owen Boon back on the team.  He is one of the better pitchers in the League and you know he will compete every time he is handed the ball.  Owen is also one of our Clubhouse leaders and has a tremendous work ethic.”

The London Majors are a member of Canada’s top baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. The 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
